An Exploratory Approach for Modeling Image-Enabled Discourse

A proposed methodology for the study of image-enabled discourse is introduced, focusing on a conceptual framework that builds on theoretical contributions of related research and provides working definitions for key concepts,and a brief description of future empirical research. The goal of this methodology is to produce an analytic model of image-enabled conversations that could be applied to a range of multimodal information problems including system building for information access and extraction. Drawing is used as an example of an imagecentered discourse practice.
